‘Grey Gardens’
JONATHAN COHEN, FALL / WINTER 2018
Drawing inspiration from the American documentary Grey Gardens, which captures the eccentric unraveling of Big Edie and Little Edie's world. This collection explores beauty in what is often dismissed—decay, chaos, and sentimentality—using this tension as the foundation for the collection's visual language.
Development Process.
We developed hand-pressed florals using real specimens, scanning them to create artwork influenced by Nick Knight's Flora. Embroidery motifs were created from discarded materials—candy wrappers, paper scraps, and tangled thread—transformed into delicate stitched details and intentionally imperfect arrangements. This romanticization of the overlooked forms the core of the collection: garments that feel intimate, nostalgic, and quietly off-kilter
