‘Grey Gardens’

JONATHAN COHEN, FALL / WINTER 2018

This collection draws inspiration from the American documentary Grey Gardens, which captures the eccentric unraveling of Big Edie and Little Edie's world. It explores beauty in what's often dismissed—decay, chaos, and sentimentality—using this tension as the foundation for the collection's visual language.

We developed hand-pressed florals using real specimens, scanning them to create artwork influenced by Nick Knight's Flora. Embroidery motifs were created from discarded materials—candy wrappers, paper scraps, and tangled thread—transformed into delicate stitched details and intentionally imperfect arrangements. This romanticization of the overlooked forms the core of the collection: garments that feel intimate, nostalgic, and quietly off-kilter.
