‘Mercado De Artesias’
JONATHAN COHEN, FALL / WINTER 2019
This collection explores fragmentation as a method of reconstruction. Inspired by traditional Mexican markets, collected blankets are cut apart and reassembled into layered compositions of color, form, and texture.
Floral motifs are hand-collaged from deconstructed fabric and reimagined as digital prints and embroidered surfaces. Embroidery is developed using raw-edge bias strips of organza, arranged in zigzag formations to mirror the energy of pieced textiles. Surface techniques create rhythm through layering, repetition, and material contrast.
