Each designer was assigned an important American artist exhibited at the Whitney and tasked with creating a look inspired by their life, work, or perspective on the American experience.
Our assigned artist was Jean-Michel Basquiat. The hand-painted trench coat was an ode to him and Madonna’s young love affair.
